Rosales to hold 5th ‘Ibtor’ triathlon challenge

ROSALES- Adjudged by the Department of Tourism (DoT) as the Best LGU Tourism Event in the municipal category, this town is heavily preparing it’s 5th Ibtor Triathlon Challenge to be conducted on January 12, which will start at the Acop Dam of the town’s eco-tourism area and culminate in front of SM City Rosales in Carmen East village.

This was bared by Mayor Ricardo V. Revita who said the said tourism event has drawn the attention of foreign and local tourists as well as participants.

“The Ibtor challenge is an endurance activity composed of three events. These include off-road run along the eco- tourism area, tri-wheeled biking and buddy-run. It will start at early morning of January 12 in which the participants will vie for prizes and awards in every category they will compete in,” said Revita, who is on his last term as municipal mayor and will run as vice mayor in May 2013 elections.

The first stage is swimming at the Acop Dam spanning 350 meters distance. The second leg is the off-road run covering 10 kilometers in the eco-tourism area and the third stage is the pedicab race that will start from Salvacion village up to Rizal village covering a distance of 15 kilometers. Buddy run is the last stage, which covers 10 kilometers from Rizal village to SM City Rosales.

The competition , Mayor Revita said, requires speed, strength, stamina and endurance to survive the events. ” Ibtor is Ilocano term meaning the ability to endure the rigors of life,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tourism Officer Aila Rose Z.Seradoy said her office has lined up added attractions to make the event more festive.

These include the participation of the Drum and Bugle Corps of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), swimming party at the eco-dam and water reservoir and lagoon and the holding of Boys and Girls Scouts camporal.
