Prov’l Gov’t supports senior citizens- Calimlim
BAYAMBANG-Pangasinan Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr expressed that the provincial government shall continue with its health services for the seniors citizens of Bayambang on their 20th anniversary.
Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of Bayambang President Emmanuel Serafica thanked the general assembly for their participation in the celebration of the senior citizens anniversary with the theme “Nakakatanda…Manindigan, Karapatan Ipaglaban.”
Serafica also cited the efforts of Vice Governor Calimlim in assisting the Bayambang senior citizens in all their activities.
Calimlim on the other hand, praised the officers of the Bayambang senior citizens for their continuing effort in making themselves useful to the community and in supporting the programs of Mayor Ricardo Camacho and the provincial government.
He said the provincial government is doing its best in providing the best environment for senior citizens to live a happy and healthy life.
Calimlim said special relations have been established between the provincial government and the government of Guam.
He added that the government of Guam has committed to hiring workers from Pangasinan.
“Sa pagsisikap ng provincial government na makipag-ugnayan sa Guam, ang mga anak niyo at ang mga apo niyo ngayon ay may chance na makapagtrabaho sa Guam,” he said.
Calimlim believes that contentment and happiness will keep the senior citizens on their feet dancing and singing to their favorite tunes.
Camacho said that people are aware that the elders have a great treasure chest of wisdom and values that they can share to the younger generation.
He said he also consults the elders for opinions and pieces of advice on certain matters that need government policy formulation and action.

Vice Mayor Melvyn Junio said the Sangguniang Bayan has been in constant consultation with the senior citizens in the formulation of resolutions and ordinances that affect the elderly sector.
Former mayor Leocadio De Vera said the senior citizens are very close to his heart and that he has never stopped in helping them.
He said a community should be one where the young and old live together and everyone shares in times of difficult struggles and in times of celebrations.
De Vera said he was very lucky to have been raised in a family where respect for elders is a primary value, and that each member of the family should strive to get a good education, work hard, and take care of each other.
“Dapat habang bata pa tayo…Para tayong magkakabarkada, nirerespeto natin ang bawat isa, tapos ang bawat isa ay nagsusumikap na makapag-aral, makapaghanapbuhay at magatulungan,” De Vera said. “Sa pagtanda natin, magkakabarkada pa rin tayo.”
Abono Party-list President Ponciano Onia said senior citizens are special people because they have the ability to take care of their children, the ability to take care of their children’s children and still have the ability to take care of their children’s children’s children.
