VILLASIS- Amid rumors that she will be challenged in May 2013, Mayor Libradita Go- Abrenica said she welcomed political opponents for the said position.

“We are in a democracy, thus we have to preserve the democratic processes in this country. Anyone has the right to run for any political position, including the mayoralty,” Mayor Abrenica said.

She said the projects installed and constructed under her watch including that of her husband former Mayor Nonato S. Abrenica, speak for themselves. “The people of our town know the efforts we have done to transform our town into what it is today.”

Former Mayor Abrenica held the mayoral post from 2001 to 2010 completing his nine- year term. Incumbent Mayor Libradita won the mayoralty in 2010 elections against retired police general Ismael R. Rafanan.

Political observers of the town said Rafanan will likely do a return bout with the Abrenicas but his supporters are brushing off the said idea.

A Rafanan leader in 2010 elections who requested anonimity said the return of Rafanan
in the town’s political scene is a remote possibility.

” After the 2010 elections if he has still political plans, Rafanan should have consolidated his leaders including that of supporting candidates for the barangay elections, but he did not,” the political leader said.

When asked if the Abrenicas will be unopposed for the mayoral post, Abrenica said she will concentrate working for the benefits of the Villasinians.

” We will not be holding this position (mayor) forever. There will still be new leaders. When that time comes, we will be happy and glad that we have done something for the good of our people. We thank them for all the support they have accorded to us,” Abrenica said.
