Rated PG? No, it’s not the movie and television rates imposed by the Cinema and Television Classification Board (CTCB) as “ Parental Guidance” or “Patnubay at Gabay ng Magulang”. It’s the Perez-Gorospe tandem of Urdaneta City- two political pillars which have proven themselves as the moving forces towards the transformation of the city to what it is today.
Mayor Amadeo Gregorio “Bobom” E. Perez IV has proven his savvy in local governance of Urdaneta City. He has also frustrated his critics that he’s only the shadow of his father, former city mayor and now MECO Chair Amadeo R. Perez Jr. The young Perez proved them wrong. He has his own style of management and leadership.
In his more than two years at the helm of the city as the local chief executive, he has initiated programs and projects that transformed the lives of his constituents more so the change of the environmental landscape of the city. His political will of implementing the anti-littering campaign in the city has paid off. For two consecutive years, Urdaneta City was adjudged as the “Cleanest, Greenest and Safest City in Region I,” an award given by the Region I Development Council.
Mayor Perez is a hands-on executive who always visits and monitors the implementation of his programs and projects .His office is equipped with a CCTV monitor which flashes activities in in every corner of the city streets. In one of my visits in his office, he showed me how the system works, I was amazed to see that at the flick of his finger, vehicles plying along main thoroughfares could be monitored especially those riding in motorcycles without helmets and even the market operations within the city.
On the efficient and effective delivery of public services, Mayor Bobom has initiated the Mobile Public Service System, with the city government visiting villages for the registration of business permits, births, medical and dental services, social welfare, agriculture and many more. The Livelihood Training Center established by his father, former Mayor Perez. has intensified its operations by providing more courses for skills development.
As the filing of candidacies draws near for the May 2013 elections, it seems that Mayor Bobom will be unchallenged. At present, political pundits in the city said that no one dares to challenge him because of his accomplishments. “Mayor Bobom has to pursue more of his development agenda in the city. What he started should be sustained not by others but himself,” said a market vendor.
Like Mayor Bobom, Vice Mayor Onofre “Bong” Gorospe is a seasoned politician. He has served the city as councilor for many years and even a village head. He’s the type of politician who knows how to work closely with the local chief executive. He never figured out in a squabble with Mayor Bobom but has been a partner in the implementation of legislative agenda needed to further the development of the city.
“We have to support Mayor Bobom as this is the mandate given to us by our constituents,” said Vice Mayor Bong, this time speaking with the “we” to include the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. He said that he’s been lucky to be the presiding officer of the city council where their actions are always geared to the benefit of the city folks.
On the political side, Vice Mayor Bong said he will seek re-election, still under the slate of Mayor Bobom Perez. Will he be unchallenged? There are speculations that political bigwigs in the city seemed to dare his post, but knowing Vice Mayor Bobom, he will weather the tide of politics this coming pools in 2013. Whether he has political opponents for his position, Vice Mayor Bong, I believe, will stand out. He has proven his political maturity and dynamism.
Rated PG? Yes, Perez-Gorospe tandem- the “PG” of Urdaneta City, “ Patnubay at Gabay ng Mabuting Pamamahala”.
Urdanetanians, could you still ask for other politicians in your midst?
