DAGUPAN CITY- City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim here swore into office last September 6 the new set of officers of the Association of Journalists in Pangasinan (AJP)- a newly organized media group with members from the print and broadcast who are actively practicing community journalism.
Before Mayor Lim inducted the officers, he asked whether the new group is a breakaway organization from the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC) which is currently headed by lawyer Gonzalo Duque.
He advised the officers of the new group that if it is a breakaway group, then he will not consider swearing them in because PPC is already an institution of the media group in Pangasinan.
Ruben Rivera, publisher and editor in chief of Northern Mirror and the newly elected president of AJP ,assured Mayor Lim that the group was not a breakaway from the PPC.
“We are supporting the cause of PPC. This group is purely an association of those who are active media practitioners both in print and broadcast. Staff of media outlets who are not directly involved in news reporting and column writing are not welcome in this group,” Rivera said.
Rivera, who is also a director of PPC, said that the group still supports the activities of the PPC.
Ashok Vasandani, Executive Vice President of PPC who served as witness, also assured the mayor that AJP caters only to practicing journalists in the province.
Lim inducted the following as officers of AJP: Ruben Rivera- President (Northern Mirror), Rannie Manaois- Executive Vice President (Sonshine Radyo), Macky Delgado- Vice President for Broadcast (DWPR), Vernon Galletes-Vice President for Print (North Post), Teodulfo Macatbag-Secretary (Pangasinan Online Balita), Lorna Abalos- Treasurer (Weekly Guardian) and Joey Ballesteros- Auditor (DWPR).
The Board of Directors are: Jonathan Tandoc (Regional Examiner), Edmund Abobo (Bombo Radyo), Virgil Maganes (Northern Watch),Mel Jovellanos (Eastern Gazette), Allan Tigulo (Sonshine Radyo), Edgar Salgado (Pangasinan Express) and RJ Jimenez (DWPR).
