DAGUPAN CITY – Is Fourth District Rep. Georgina de Venecia running for a gubernatorial seat in the province next year?
Manay Gina, as she is endearingly called by her supporters, said it was not an impossibility that she runs for the top elective post in Pangasinan.
“We are still consulting one another in the family,” she said recently.
De Venecia, who is the congresswoman of the 4th District of Pangasinan, will find herself “jobless” next year in case her husband Jose, a former five-time speaker of the House of Representatives, will reclaim his post in the 2013 poll.
She said in the past that her electoral option is open for the mayoralty race of this city and the gubernatorial post.
“I and my husband are mulling what is best for us and the (place) where our services are needed most,” she said in Filipino.
In a recent gathering of political dignitaries in Davao City, the name of de Venecia cropped up as a possible gubernatorial bet of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III’s Liberal Party in Pangasinan .
“There is a big possibility for Manay Gina to try the gubernatorial post since she has no more political seat to run except the mayoralty post of Dagupan and the governor’s post in the province,’ said a political analyst who asked for anonymity.
He said he rules out Gina running for the senate next year.
Gina’s stepson Joey de Venecia, the executive vice president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan, is bracing for a second try for a senate seat next year. He almost won in the 2010 election.
He said that every time the name of her stepmother Gina pops up in the online news for the gubernatorial election, it instantly becomes an instant hit on the blogs “most read” section.
Recently this paper’s online version made the news “Governor Gina de Venecia” bylined by Brando Cortez as the most read topic for a week.
The analyst said unlike the financially- constrained former Governor Victor Agbayani who lost by almost about half million votes to incumbent Governor Amado T. Espino in the 2010 poll, de Venecia has a deep financial chest that can sustain a long drawn expensive battle for the provincial post in case she draws sword with Espino next year.

Still we’ll vote for Gov. Espino, with no doubt, as you can see a huge changes to the Province of Pangasinan economically when he took his position.

Gina did not have any political elected postion when her husband was the speaker. Now She is afraid to lost her political position in the event that her husband will run in for representative in her district. What is wrong if you do not have any political position ? Stay home. . Espino is still one of the best governor Pangasinan ever had..
