CORTEZ: Pahabol na PD, makasingit kaya?

WALA NG RULE OF LAW.

You may have heard the above message to an apo with an accompanying video of an old man named Lolo Mario from a fishing village similar to any coastal town in Pangasinan.

He got dressed, lugged a bayong and rode a boat with a warm send off from well-wishers.

Lolo Mario then rode a jeep to the airport, rode a plane, road a taxi to a hospital.

He happily appreciated the tall buildings, the roads and the scenery that he saw.

The entire trip to the hospital was also the time that his pregnant daughter was rushed to the hospital, had labor pains until we saw a happy mother seeing and touching her newborn child.

Lolo Mario happily meets his daughter, opens his bayong and gives a gift .

Then he goes to his newest apo with happiness, offers his forefinger and the baby grasps it…and Lolo Mario laughs as baby laughs too.

Lolo Mario returns home to the fishing village with happy welcome from family and friends.

A happy Lolo Mario adds a framed photograph of his daughter and newest apo on a table of framed photographs

Lolo Mario, family and friends celebrate with food and drinks and play dama.

Lolo Mario plants a kiss to Lola.

Lolo Mario lives a happy life.

Everybody in Pangasinan deserves to live a happy life. It is our birthright to be happy.

Bangus Fest 2012 Officially Opens

DAGUPAN CITY – The Bangus Festival Committee, headed by Coun. Marc Brian C. Lim, gears up as the much-anticipated opening of the Bangus Fest commences on April 13.

To highlight the event, preparations for a Bangus Ed Carosa Float Parade and a Grand Opening Ceremony are underway to ensure a festive kick-off for this year’s celebration.

During the Bangus Ed Carosa, a procession of colorful and creatively-designed, Bangus-inspired floats are expected to awe onlookers as they slowly traverse Dagupan’s major thoroughfares namely Lucao, Perez, M.H. Del Pilar and A.B. Fernandez Avenue.

Also, preparations for a Grand Bangus Fest Opening Ceremony are in full-swing as event chair Nora Siapno recently discussed the final flow of the program with the different focal persons of her committee at the City Museum.

“After the parade of bancas from Calmay to Babaliwan, Most Reverend Socrates B. Villegas will lead the blessing of the river, “ Siapno said as she further stated that the ceremony will also feature a floral offering and a ceremonial dispersal of fingerlings afterwards.

Siapno added that the opening ceremony, which will be conducted near the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Office in Pob. Oeste, will start at 5pm.

“It’s hard to miss the opening date of the Bangus Fest as it falls on April 13 and on a Friday,” Siapno jests.

Coincidentally on the same date, the unveiling of the Art Walk and Sculpture and the opening of a trade fair featuring Pangasinan’s Best will be held at the City Plaza to be highlighted with a grand fireworks display at 10pm. (CIO)

MAGANES: Pangasinan’s cultural heritage

One development undertaking that is commendable under Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr.’s administration is the revival or enrichment of the Pangasinan culture. It is a known fact that under the previous administrations, cultural development took a backseat, was taken too lightly and was not given much impetus.

In his almost six years stay at the helm of the provincial government, Governor Espino took cognizance of the real identity of the Pangasinenses. It was him who took the initiative to research the real foundation day of the province of Pangasinan, providing the Pangasinenses the knowledge on how this premiere province evolved from the shackles of Spanish authorities. Now we can say that Pangasinan has its day in a year to celebrate its founding anniversary, April 5. (more…)

ORTIGOZA: Blame corruption why this town is poor?

There are only few palatial mansions (just like those owned by actors in Hollywood) in the province that I can count with my fingers.
Each of these mansions costs millions of pesos.
One of them is located in an exterior village in a very poor town.
The imposing abode is owned by a sacked treasurer because of the bursar’s differences with the incumbent mayor.
The treasurer is identified as crony of the previous mayors who were responsible for the penury of the town.
The bursar was heard to lend monies to the poor farmers for them to buy fertilizers and pesticides. My source told me that it is the same treasurer who sold these stuffs to them.
Many suspected that the funds the bursar loaned to these hapless people were sourced from the town’s coffer.
When the incumbent mayor assumed office he was able to almost double the tax collection of the sorry town in one fiscal year compared to the last year of his predecessor. (more…)
