The Department of Agriculture named the top 10 provinces in rice production last February 10 at the PICC during the 2011 Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers’ Awards or ‘Parangal sa mga Bosing ng Palayan.’
The top ten rice producing provinces are: Ilocos Norte, Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Southern Leyte, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur.
They were judged based on their incremental rice production volume and area harvested from 2008 to 2011.
There are sectors that have been saying and we were made to believe that Pangasinan is second to Nueva Ecija in rice production!
But Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan are not included in the awardees!
What is the basis of Pangasinan being second to Nueva Ecija?
What list or ranking are they referring to?…Which will we believe?
Please somebody explain.
The Department of Agriculture awarded P4 million worth of agricultural projects each to the top 10 rice producing provinces.
Since Pangasinan is not one of the top 10, it did not receive P4 million worth of agricultural projects.
Would it not have been good for us if we saw the name Amado T. Espino Jr. (Pangasinan) together with the following awardees: governors Imee R. Marcos (Ilocos Norte), Josephine R. Sato (Mindoro Occidental), Alfonso V. Umali (Mindoro Oriental), Arthur Defensor (Iloilo), Alfredo G. Maranon (Negros Occidental), Gerardo J. Espina Jr. (Biliran), Rodolfo P. Del Rosario (Davao del Norte), Douglas RA Cagas (Davao del Sur), Adolph Edward G. Plaza (Agusan del Sur), and Johnny Pimentel (Surigao Del Sur)?
