Local veggie trader is Mrs. Villasis 2012

VILLASIS- A vegetable trader from San Blas village here accumulated the highest cash votes in a popularity contest for Mrs. Villasis 2012 held at Villasis Gymnasium last December 29.

Mrs. Beatriz De Vera-Olivar collected a total cash votes of P10,049,397 while Cristina Manantan-Abenes of California, USA has P6,701,061 making her as the First Princess and Merlita Rayray-Magtaan of Paris, France as the Second Princess with a total cash votes of P3,114,845.

This year’s popularity contest has collected a gross total of P19,865,3003.

“This is a record breaking in the history of popularity contest in the town of Villasis,” said Councilor Roderick E.R. Mina, this year’s chair on the Committee on Popularity Contest.

He said that the net income will still be bigger compared to other popularity contests after deducting the commissions and percentages of the candidates.

Mayor Libradita Go-Abrenica was all smiles after the canvassing. She thanked the candidates , their supporters and the townspeople for their unequalled support during the popularity contest.

“I was not expecting to have these results considering of the economic crisis we are experiencing. I thank the candidates -Mrs. Olivar, Mrs. Abenes and Mrs. Rayray for their sacrifices in accepting our offers for them as candidates. I thanked also their supporters for without them, the popularity contest will not be a success,” Abrenica said.

She said further that the many activities during the fiesta celebration are in store for the Villasinians as well as visitors and guests.

Among the activities, she said, is thanksgiving night that will open up the fiesta celebration followed by nights of school grand reunions, grand parade, street dancing, SK Night, Search for Villasis Singing Idol, Barangay Night, Coronation and Balikbayan Night and the famous Talong Festival which will feature “Pinakbet sa Kawa” and cooking contest.

De Vera-Olivar was sponsored by the municipal officials and employees, local and national government agencies, Department of Education, barangay officials, non-government organizations ,the town’s local residents and the Olivar and De Vera Families..

Cristina Manantan-Abenes was sponsored by the Manantan and Razonable Families, Martinez Clan, Villasinians of Southern California, Villasinians of San Diego and Annak ti Villasis of Canada.

Merlita Rayray-Magtaan was sponsored by Villasinians of Europe, Villasinians of Paris, Villasinians of Italy, Villasinians of Madrid, Spain, Villasinians of Barcelona, Spain, Villasinians of Australia, Villasinians of Germany, Villasinians of London, Villasinians of Hongkong, and the Magtaan, Riñon, Macanas, Quijance, Rayray Cabreros and Ubaldo Families.

The net income of the Villasis Town Fiesta 2012 will be used to renovate and improve the Legislative Building of the town.
