There are People who make things happen. There are People who watch things happen. Then there are People who wonder what happened!

It is dying!

Mayor Bobom bikes to barangays

By Brando Cortez

URDANETA CITY-True to his promise of bringing the City Hall to the barangays, Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo “Bobom” Perez IV has regularly been visiting the different barangays for regular consultation and project inspection.

Perez has discovered the benefits of riding a mountain bike when he goes to the barangays.

Biking is a great workout for the entire body. It is a low-impact physical activity that doesn’t cause a lot of stress on joints yet can help trim waistline and increase cardio vascular activity or decrease a person risk to heart diseases.

Perez has a regular program called The Barangay Pangserbisyo Mobile Service which is aimed at providing city government services direct to the barangays.

The benefits derived by the people are savings in terms of time and money where the barangay residents do not need go to the City Hall for business permits, tricycle permits, building permits, payments for real property tax and community tax certificate, and civil registry, health, agricultural, and social welfare services.

Perez discovered that one of the joys of biking is that his group of around 30 to 40 city hall employees have been using this activity as their bonding time.

He is encouraging people to engage in biking not only for the joy of it but also for the health benefits that are derived.

Perez also cited the contribution of biking to help preserve the environment and help decrease expenses because biking burns calories not gasoline.

“Through the BOP, I and other aspiring young leaders from various universities across the country were able to enhance our mutual understanding, cooperation, and communication skills remarkably,” Aguilar said.

Former UB students who participated in past BOPs include Kathrina Gabriel, John Balanquit, and Randy Ventanilla.
