Chua, Abono supports palay seeds production

ASINGAN-Mayor Heidee Chua gave her favorable support to the production of certified rice seeds production among farmers in eastern Pangasinan as a positive step towards attaining rice self-sufficiency.

Chua said that the farmers who participated in the ‘Five Days Basic Training on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification’ is a new breed of farmers who are now tasked to provide the seed requirements of palay farmers of Pangasinan.

She thanked the Abono Party-list Rep. Robert Raymund Estrella, Jr. for his continuing concern over the plight of small farmers by providing training on certified seed production.

“Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa Abono Party-list sa training na ito,” Chua said. “Naniniwala po ako na malaki ang pakinabang na makukuha ng mga magsasaka sa certified seed production.”

Abono Party-list president Ponciano Onia Jr. stressed that the training was conducted to arm the farmers in terms of ensured high quality of seeds.

He said that the project is being conducted with the cooperation of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr., the Department of Agriculture, Munciciplaity of Asingan and the Pangasinan Fedration of Irrigators Association.

Onia said that proper monitoring of the will be conducted by accredited specialists on the crops of the seed growers to have quality seeds.

Pangasinan Federation of Irrigators Association president Oftociano Manalo, Jr. said that certified seed production will increase the income of farmers who usually produce palay.

He also said that the graduates of the training will increase the volume of certified seeds available for palay farmers.

“Ang production ng certified seeds ay isang magandang opportunity sa magsasaka na magkaroon ng mas mataas na kita,” Manalo said. “Makakasiguro tayo ng mas magandang punla at madadagdagan pa ang certified seed growers na magbibigay ng quality seeds.”
