ASINGAN-“Somebody among the young women out there is someone who will one day follow in my footsteps, and be the mayor of Asingan,” Mayor Heidee Chua said. “I will find fulfillment in her!”

If there is anything that lady Mayor Heidee Chua loves about being chief executive of Asingan, its having the power to inspire people, especially young women.

“I feel proud when they come up to me and say, ‘Because of you, I am trying my best to finish my studies no matter how difficult that is,’’’ Chua said.

Chua said that she always works as an instrument of God and help anybody who comes along for assistance.

She said that “If you want something, you envision it and you will achieve it,” Chua said. “I wanted to have a college degree, so I envisioned it and I struggled to finish college. In the end, I got what I wanted.’’

Chua grew up in rural Asingan among the rice fields. She and her siblings are used to a simple life.

She is a graduate of the University of the Philippines and has been an advocate of a better life for the people.

“I always pray that my work will inspire and empower the people of Asingan to meet the challenges they face daily and realize their aspirations for a better life,’’ Chua said.

Chua wants to implement programs and projects that will transform the lives of young women.

“It is my personal advocacy to give young women in Asingan the chance to become successful in life,’’ Chua said. “Unfortunately, most of them do not have the means. Through our empowerment program, we hope to help the young women to engage in livelihood activities.”
