INFANTA-Have you been asked when your birthday is and you could not give an answer?

This was an issue that confronted the town of Infanta .

This town after 134 years celebrated its first founding day when it came to know of its official birthday as certified by the National Historical Institute.

We are now celebrating our foundation day for the first time,” said Infanta mayor Ruperto Matinez. “ We have adopted the theme, “Unang Pagdiriwang ng Anibersaryo ng Infanta, Pangasinan, Pagkaraan ng 134 na Taon: Hudyat ng Bagong Simula at Pag-asa.”

“As we celebrate, I enjoin everyone to brace up for a new beginning and hope for a peaceful, harmonious and progressive municipality,” Martinez said.

Martinez, through a letter, requested the National Historical Institute for documents to determine the foundation day of the town.

“Ano kaya ang pakiramdam ng isang taong hindi alam ang kanyang kaarawan?” Vice Mayor Virgilio Vallarta asked. “Ang ating bayan ay matagal nang walang kaarawan pero ngayon mayroon na tayong kaarawan.”

Vallarta said that with the determination of the foundation day the people can now move on together in the search for happiness.

According to the National Historical Institute, Infanta was a former barrio of Sta. Cruz, Zambales named San Felipe, and was organized into a municipality by the Superior Decree of October 4, 1876 .

Upon receipt of the papers establishing the foundation date of the municipality of Infanta , the Sangguniang Bayan created Ordinance No. 4 series of 2010 declaring October 4, 1876 as the town’s official foundation day.

“The determination of our foundation day is a very important factor in our culture, history and existence,” councilor Luis Madarang said.

Abono Party-list President Ponciano Onia said that the people of Infanta are close to the group because they have embraced the Agri-Fair launched by the party-list in 2008 by localizing the project.

He cited Municipal Agriculture Officer Connie Madarang and Councilor Anacleto Montero, Sr. for their efforts in coordinating the Agro-Industrial Fair that showcased the products of each barangay of Infanta.

All 13 barangays participated where the search for the best booth was conducted together with the holding of the ‘pinak contest for patola, gabi, talong, watermelon, sitaw, ampalaya, squash and crab.

The judges tasked to determine the winners were Ponciano Onai, Dr. Jeanette Villareal of DA RFU 1, Lewelyn Piol from the office of the Provincial Agriculturist and from the office of Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr.

The winners were awarded knapsack sprayers courtesy of Abono Party-list.

The Abono Party-list also conducted a health mission in cooperation with the local government unit.

The medical practitioners who served during the medical dental mission were Dr. Evelyn Montevirgen, Dr. Ma. Dolores C. Apalis, Dr. Portia Imelda Cuesta, Dr. Sophia N. Natata, Dr. Mary Rose Balazon.

Mayor Martinez said that the health mission is a welcome service for the people of Infanta since they were able to get free medical and dental services together with free medicines.

Other medical practitioners on hand to render their services were Dr. Adoracion Bongar, Dr. Aurora Paragas, Dr. Nora Abarra, Dr. Susan Rita D. Merino, Dr. Genrao M. Merino, and Dr. Ma. Filipina C. Vallarta.
