P4.5 B re-regulating pond will continue, Mencias says

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

ROSALES- Project Manager Reynaldo Mencias of the Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARRIP) debunked claims by some quarters that the re-regulating pond, an irrigation component of San Roque Multipurpose Dam will not be pushed through under the administration of President Aquino.

“The construction of the re-regulating pond will continue under the new administration. The funds are already available through the loan of the Government of the Philippines (GOP) from the China Export-Import Bank amounting to P11.2 billion. The P4.5 billion is earmarked for the construction of the re-regulating pond,”Mencias told this paper.

It will be recalled that the project was started during the administration of then President Arroyo and was considered as one of her banner projects. It was then under the monitoring supervision of then Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr. of Presidential Management Staff.
