By Yolanda Sotelo

SAN MANUEL, PANGASINAN – There are no guarantee that Pangasinan will not submerge once more, similar to the kind of flooding that occurred at the height of typhoon” Pepeng “in October last year.

Virgilio Garcia, hydrologist of the National Power Corporation, said if four factors under the dam discharge protocol of NPC and related agencies, the San Roque Dam in San Manuel will open its gates to release water that can no longer be contained by its reservoir.

Garcia and other officials involved in the flood forecasting and warning activities, presented to the reporters on Friday the “dam discharge protocol” to be followed when releasing excess water from the San Roque Dam.

Impeach also Ferrer; Welcome General Mabutas

A former mayor hated the guts of his predecessor. He said his rival beats him to the draw in pocketing some funds of the public coffer.

“Magaling masyado. Umutang ng malaki sa banko,” he stressed.

Because of the multi-million of pesos loan in behalf of the local government unit under his rival’s watch, the LGU’s paid millions of pesos every year as amortization.

He deplored that he should be pocketing personally 20 percent of that debt payment that he should be using in so-called infrastructure projects to impress his constituents.

Hey, Ranjit is talking!

It was my first time to attend the press conference of 6th District Board Member Ranjit R. Shahani last July 12 at Cocolandia, Urdaneta City. The press con was truly amusing, with the usual no-holds bar statements of Ranjit. But before tackling what were the issues raised, let me first talk on what happened in the morning of said day. Ranjit’s press con was in the afternoon.

I was in Asingan in the morning to see Mayor Heide Ganigan-Chua regarding the complaint of the residents of Carusocan Norte regarding a certain piggery in said place which is owned by Lims. Reports reached me that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has already issued a closure order, but the piggery is still operating, to the consternation of the residents as it is giving unhealthy environment- not only the foul odor but also the canals that have been clogged due to piggery wastes. A resident in the place by the name of Rudy Antonio told me that until now, there was no action from the barangay officials much less the municipal mayor during the watch of former Mayor Carlos Lopez. With Chua’s administration, he is optimistic that something positive will be done on their predicament.
