Intense heat sending people to hospital
By Yolanda Sotelo
DAGUPAN CITY – The summer heat is sending plenty of patients to the hospital.
Dr. Roland Mejia, chief of the Region I Medical Center, said compared to summers of past years when few people are confined because of ailment caused by heat, this month of May is worst when it comes to number of patients because of hypertension caused by the heat.
He did not have the exact number of patients, but said there are more women suffering from the heat because bodies of women are “unstable when exposed to extreme heat.”

BASISTA MAYORALTY RACE: Perez asks Comelec to declare winner ‘disqualified’
By Yolanda Sotelo
BASISTA– A losing mayoralty candidate of this town asked the Commission on Elections to declare the mayoralty winner “ineligible and disqualified” for the position because he is Filipino-American or has dual citizenship.
Jocelyn Ong Perez, who lost to Manolito de Leon by 309 votes, said de Leon has not renounced his American citizenship and therefore was not eligible for any elective public position in the country.
She asked if a mere affidavit of renunciation of citizenship was enough proof that de Leon already has renounced his American citizenship.

EDITORIAL: 7 out of 10 no jobs
After graduation, Perfecta Sison, 21, is already looking for a job, braving the summer heat and submitting her resume to all sorts of offices.

The day I was ‘crowned’
I had to take a respite from the rigors of covering the elections.
Luckily, my nephew who happens to be in Marinduque where he’s raising a family and working as professor at Marinduque State College, invited us to take a vacation in their place.
With some members of the family, we went to Marinduque last May 21. We took the bus for Cubao at 1:00 in the morning, thence from Cubao took a bus to Lucena City ( Quezon Province). It took us more or less eight hours from Villasis to Lucena City and an additional one and a half hours boat ride from Lucena City to Balanacan Port in Marinduque.

SY Files: Wala nang aksyon
Ni Susan Yadao
Nakakapanibago.
Nakakabagot! Boring talaga!
Para maalis ang pagkainip, since it’s a Friday, napagkatuwaan ng mga lady staff ng Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan — me, Violy Ferrer, Ilet Breguerra, Tina Mina, Dea Velasco and Northern Watch editor Yolly Sotelo (sorry kay Aksyon Owen Reyes she’s on-board) – to go out and unwind.
