The people have spoken

The national and local elections are almost through. We are still waiting the canvassing of the results at the national level as of this writing. Although there were sporadic incidents of untoward incidents in some areas, the political and electoral exercises were generally peaceful, clean and honest.

We have to commend the Commission on Elections (Comelec) , the Philippine National Police (PNP),.the Board of Election Inspectors and the Philippine Army for their efforts in ensuring a credible elections. I am personally commending the Smartmatic- TM for the automated polls for counting the votes fast and accurate. Yes, their were minor glitches like the bogging down of PCOS and the delayed arrival of new configured compact flash drives, but these are forgiven due to the expert technical handling of the first automated polls.

Comelec has proven its critics wrong. Before the elections, there were doubts whether the automated polls will be carried out successfully and even to the extent of requesting for parallel manual counting.

With the results now, those critics must give apologies to the personnel of Comelec particularly to Chairman Jose Melo.

While I commended the Comelec for a job well done, there are still areas that I think needed to be improved in the next elections. Queuing of voters should be done in orderly manner and the clustering of precincts should be given immediate attention. I was lucky that I did not go through the rigors of waiting in line to cast my vote. No, I was not given preferential attention by the Board of Election Inspectors in my precinct. It’s because I got my voter and precinct number before the election day. That should have been done by voters to avoid long lines in turning the pages of the list of registered voters.

Yes Toto Mortz, the people have finally spoken. They have elected their new leaders. Whether these leaders have bought their positions, that will already be thrown into oblivion. They will now act on their mandates starting at 12:00 noon of June 30, 2010 after they have taken their oaths
