Manay Gina: “Benjie and Brian should join Mother Lily!”

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY – In a final ditch to end the campaign period, congressional bet Gina de Venecia took a swipe to political opponents – the father and son – Benjie and Brian Lim after their “well-staged” public stunt that the latter was manhandled by armed men.

The incident she referred was when the young Lim reported to the police here that he and former councilor Nick Aquino were not only poked by an M-16 Baby Armalite assault rifle but was hit by the nozzle of it on the lower sides of their torso.

No petition yet for wage increase in Region 1

By Venus H. Sarmiento

DAGUPAN CITY– The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board sees no reason to increase workers’ minimum wage in the Ilocos region simply because there is no petition for it.

Exequiel Ronie Guzman, the OIC assistant regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment representing the RTWPB said his office has not received any petition yet for wage increases.

Guzman said that in any given work, there must be a balance between three factors, the laborers or the workers, the government and the employers. In the implementation of policies, these three factors must be taken into consideration, he said.

Ortegas rule La Union for more than 100 years

SAN FERNANDO CITY – Talk of La Union province and the name Ortega will invariably come to mind.

After all, the Ortegas have been well-entrenched in the political scene of this province in north Luzon , starting in 1901 when Joaquin Ortega was appointed by the American government as La Union’s first Filipino civil governor.

The province is seeing members of the family’s third and fourth generations seeking reelection in the May polls, and most of them are almost assured of winning.

What could be the staying power of this “political dynasty?”
