PERSPECTIVES: Squabbling between PMAyer-politicians

By Marcelo C. Ortigoza

Bani Mayor Marcelo Navarro has unloaded his sentiments on radio against Pangasinan Governor Amado T. Espino.

The former general said he could not fathom why the governor was “persecuting” him.

But I am not interested on the politics between the two, for the meantime, on this column.

What I was interested was, susmariosep, these duo were mistahs or classmates (1972) at the elite Philippine Military Academy where they both received their diplomas from Apo McCoy, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, at the hallowed ground of Boromeo Field where I used to jog when I worked at the public information office there before.

EAVESDROPPER: Gibo, the next President

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

I was with a group of friends lately having round of bottles of beer at Gerry’s Grill SM City Rosales and one of our topics was the political situation in the country, particularly the local scene. The conversation was focused on who will likely be the emerging winners in the local polls in May – the presidency , the governorship, congressmen and even mayors in the various towns of the province.

While most of us in the group have different views on local bets, we were one in the opinion that the presidency will ultimately be on the side of Gibo Teodoro of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD coalition. While Gibo is at present on the third slot in the various survey polls ( with 1,500 respondents in the whole country) with Noynoy Aquino of Liberal Party and Manny Villar of the Nacionalista Party leading, his popularity is gaining grounds particularly among the youth, women’s groups and even the business communities.

Dagupan water district eyes other sources

By Danny O Sagun

Dagupan City – While the city’s aquifers may be enough at present to supply the city’s needs, other sources are already being considered to meet the demands of the future, engineer Adelfo Valle of the Dagupan City Water District said.

Guesting at the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency, Valle disclosed that exploratory talks are going on for the possible tapping of the San Roque Multi-Purpose dam as water source. Other possible sources are the nearby towns of San Fabian and Calasiao, he said.

But earlier negotiations with officials and residents of the two towns bogged down, he bared.
