Manay Gina ignores politics of hate

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY – Congressional bet Gina de Venecia of the 4th district of Pangasinan claimed she just ignores the politics of hatred resorted by the camp of her rival for the congressional seat.

“Hindi na natin iyan pinapansin. Ang importante politics of performance. Hindi negative politics na puro paninira dahil wala naman silang naibibigay na maganda sa 4th District. Ng bumaha at bumagyo kahit isang bubong , isang pako, isang lata ng sardinas wala silang na itulong. Noong bumabagyo kahit isang bag ng relief goods wala silang naibigay. Kaya ipakita na lang natin ang ating tunay na pagmamahal sa ating mga kababayan na nandito sa 4th District,” she said.

De Venecia is pitted with mall owner Celia Lim whose husband Benjamin was defeated by former Speaker Jose de Venecia in the 2007 congressional derby.

EAVESDROPPER:The mayoralties in the province’s 5th district

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

As the formal election campaign for local politics starts on March 26, candidates for mayoralty positions in the 5th district in the province are becoming spectacles. Speculations from political camps are beginning to emerge on who will likely be the possible winners on May 10, 2010 polls.

The 5th district is composed of 9 towns- Bautista, Alcala , Sto. Tomas, Villasis, Urdaneta City , Binalonan, Pozorrubio and Sison.

In Bautista, the mayoralty seat is already on the hands of the incumbent Mayor Amadeo “Pogi” Espino III, being unopposed.

Abono assails aggie’s brass for No El Nino’s remark

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

DAGUPAN CITY- Abono Partylist Chair Rosendo So disagreed with the pronouncements of the two top government officials that Region 1 was not affected by the El Nino Phenomenon.

So questioned how Department of Agriculture Director Cipriano Santiago and Deputy Director Cris Bautista declare that there is no dry spell that wreaks havoc on the farmlands in Region 1 where there are already 6000 hectares which are parched and cracked, giving unquantifiable misery to the farmers.

In a press conference here recently, Santiago said there was no El Nino in the region that is composed of the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

Esperon bares plans and programs

By Virgilio Sar.Maganes

URDANETA CITY- “What’s better, mono block chairs or a college graduate in every home? Waiting sheds or expressways?

These were the questions posed to the newsmen by Secretary Hermogenes “Jun” Esperon, Jr. when he outlined his plans and programs as a congressional candidate of the 6th district during the “Ugnayan at Talakayan sa Silangan”, a media forum sponsored by Metro Urdaneta Press Club at Lis Rainforest Resort here last March 4.

Esperon was apparently referring to the present projects of Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias Agabas who is running also for a congressional seat in the said district.

Perspectives : Mass Weddings without a Funeral

By Mortz C. Origoza

If the stupid looking-comedian Hugh Grant has his “Four Weddings and a funeral,, my piece today is about a “Mass Wedding without a Funeral” because of some political comedy and reality it brought.

One night I was invited by a PR man of a politician to witness a free mass wedding participated by 435 couples in San Fabian, Pangasinan. The witnesses were Governor Amado T. Espino, Mrs. Helen Gamboa Sotto (the wife of senatorial contender Tito Sotto), Abono Party List Chairman Rosendo So, congressional bet Gina de Venecia special guest, and mayoralty bet Irene Libunao. Vice Presidential contender Loren Legarda was special guest.

It was the first time I saw a huge wedding officiated by a mayor (Mojamito Libunao, a lawyer and a classmate of Senators Merriam Santiago and Franklin Drilon in the University of the Philippines ) who said a mouthful to the contracting parties who promised to stick at all cost till death parts them.
