EDITORIAL:The Noah principle

Some people worry that a flood is coming. Other people warn that a flood is coming.

Still others explain why a flood is coming. Noah builds an ark.

Some people worry that power blackouts are coming. Other people warn that power blackouts are coming. Still others explain why power blackouts are coming.

Rep. Mark Cojuangco is keen on building a nuclear power plant.

Nuclear power is cheaper than other sources. Nuclear power is cleaner than other sources. Nuclear power is safer than other sources.

In the course of industrializing our economy, power is necessary. Investors from other areas will not come to Pangasinan if power supply is insufficient.

Energy consumption in terms of costs incurred by government agencies will be decreased.

Those opposing nuclear power fear of mass destruction but we need nuclear power for mass production.

All major economic powers in the world rely on nuclear power for economic purposes and why should we not use the same for our economic development?

Why should we believe countries using nuclear power that spread the fear of a nuclear holocaust among poor countries?

The countries spreading the fear of nuclear destruction are the same countries that control the oil industry.

Our power sector in the Philippines is very much dependent on the oil sold by these nuclear dependent countries.

If we convert to nuclear power, their oil sales to the Philippines will drastically decrease. The huge profits these oil companies extract from us will be diminished.

Profit is the root of the anti-nuke movement. And many among us have become unknowing supporters of the anti nuke group. In the process of supporting the anti-nuke group, we are also supporting the profit motive of the oil companies.

We believe that Rep. Cojuangco, Rep. Robert Raymund Estrella, Rep. Francisco Emmanuel Ortega and others in the House of Representatives pushing for the use of nuclear power is just like Noah building an ark.
