The chairman of Abono Partylist said he already discussed with Agriculture Secretary Arturo Yap the solutions to mitigate the onslaught of the El Nino phenomenon that continue to affect the farmers in Pangasinan.

Engineer Rosendo So said he is following-up with Yap what he discussed with him recently because mayors in Pangasinan have been telling him about the lack of water that in the agricultural farms.

Rice fields are parched and cracked in Pangasinan as irrigations have dried-up due to the dry spell.

He said what the government could do to ease the woes of the farmers is through the lending of water pumps for them to water their agricultural lands.

“Siguro iyong mga ibang bagay titingnan natin kung paano tayo makakatulong (We are looking into other probabilities on how we can help the farmers),” he stressed.

He added that sky seeding could help fight the drought as the government has budget for it.

So said farmers should plant drought-resistant white corn as an alternative.

A staff of Abono, who asked anonymity, said that an official of the DA is planning to distribute seeds of alternative crops to the farmer to help them recover their losses.
