SAN CARLOS CITY – Third District Rep. Maria Rachel Arenas said she was unfazed by the alliance of her congressional rival lawyer Gallant Soriano with former Rep. Generoso Tulagan, Sr.

Arenas claimed she was unperturbed by the threat the duo could give to her congressional aspiration as long as she is allied with city mayor Julier Resuello.

“I’ve been a partner of Mayor Resuello for the development and progress of San Carlos ,” she stressed after gracing the 45th Foundation Anniversary of this city recently. \

This city has biggest number of voters in the entire province of Pangasinan.

Records of the provincial office of the Commission on Election in Dagupan City showed that this city has a 105,418 strong registered voters that is bigger than the combined voting population of the towns of Sta. Barbara and Calasiao that are all part of the district.

Soriano runs for congress, while Tulagan challenges Resuello for the mayorship.

Soriano and Tulagan’s son and namesake were defeated by Arenas in a political tussle that was acrimoniously contested by the losers up to the House of Representative Electoral Tribunal (HRET). HRET however denied their petitions.

Arenas was the first solon in the district to bring a billion and a-half of pesos worth of projects like concrete roads and highways, dams, dikes, and others that awed political spectators.

All of these were traceable to the good graces of President Gloria M. Arroyo who padded Arenas’ congressional financial insertion, she said.

A congressman only gets P70 million a year or P210 million of Countryside Development Fund or the infamously known Pork Barrel in a three-year term.

With a bloated P35 billion Arroyo-signed appropriation for congressional insertions and allocation for the Palace-friendly members of the House of Representatives from this year’s budget of P1.541 trillion, Arenas optimistically said that the district can enjoy another round of financial packages from the central government.
