Eavesdropper: Christmas’ follies

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

When I was a child, I always looked forward to the month of December, the happiest month ever in the calendar. And who would not? It is the month of merriment, of gift giving, of family reunions and of special bonding with relatives and friends. I looked forward also to receiving gifts – never mind if they are recycled, brand new or hands-me-down. As a child, you cannot choose the gift you will receive.

But as years went by, my eagerness of waiting the month of December has paled. The greetings “Merry Christmas” have became so shallow and putrid. It became an easy way out for mendicancy. The callousness of using even Christ’s name is indeed deplorable. Christmas in December became a commercial activity. Supermalls, supermarkets and big commercial establishments have been capitalizing the season to promote their products and services with all the come-ons trappings for consumers’ enticement.

Ang Maso: Ikaw na nga…Ferdie Calimlim

By Brando Cortez

MERRY CHRISTMAS po kay Andres Flores (Boy Sianang ng Rosales)!

Whether our blessings are big or small, we must share them.

And we should do this all year long, not only during Christmas.

O di ba ang saya pa din ng Pasko sa atin?

Kahit pa sabihin ng iba na maingay ang Pasko sa atin.

Manay Gina’s story is ‘I Survived’ Christmas presentation

For its Christmas episode, award-winning docu-drama “I Survived”, has chosen to feature the heart-warming story of Gina de Venecia and how she survived the fire that struck her family on the eve of the first simbang gabi in December of 2004, when she lost her youngest daughter KC.

In her own words, Gina explained, how she overcame unbelievable circumstances — offering insight into what got her through the experience that changed her life forever.

Aside from the extensive interview, the docu-drama will also use actual footages from the tragedy.

The show itself is inspired by host Ces Oreña Drilon’s survival from the hands of rebels in Mindanao last June 2008.

Perspectives :Mangatarem’s lousy mayor; Brewing electoral race

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

At the Kapihan sa Lenox recently, I asked Dagupan City mayoralty bet Benjie S. Lim the following “incendiary” questions that put the house down:

“We can expect the camp of your rival Mayor Al Fernandez will shoot you with high-octane issues like the alleged anomalous multi-million pesos garbage site in Awai, Metro State and Macador buildings, and Malimgas Market, what issues are you going to hurl at Mayor Al to counter these accusations?”

The former mayor initially told me that he would not resort to mudslinging. However, the fighter in him that we saw when he fought the “invincible” Speaker Joe de Venecia in the 2007 congressional race, betrayed him.

FVR may support LP bets

By Danny O Sagun

DAGUPAN CITY– Former President Fidel V. Ramos may finally throw his support to the candidates of the Liberal Party in Pangasinan because his own nephew is running for board member under the party, former Vice Gov. Oscar B. Lambino pointed out yesterday.

Lambino, who is running anew for vice-governor, said that as of now the former chief executive has not endorsed anybody contrary to claims that the latter already expressed his support to the presidential bid of administration candidate Gilberto Teodoro.

“Wala pa naman akong nabasang report na inindorso na nya si Teodoro, sinabi lang nya na qualified sya na maging pangulo ng bansa,” he told the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency.
