LINGAYEN – The mayor of this capital town of Pangasinan still mulls whom to support in the brewing congressional race in the 2nd District that is being contested by five marquee candidates.

“I was not informed yet (by the party) whom we are going tosupport. We are going to meet and talk about it,” Mayor Jonas Castaneda said.

The five congressional candidates are former CIBAC Party List solon Blanca Kim-Lokin, former Board Member Arthel Caronongan, Board Member Nicky Reyes, Atty. Merrera, and Retired Police General Leopoldo Bataoil.

Castaneda, however, said he was going to support a member of Lakas-Kampi-Biskeg Party to whom he belongs.

Meanwhile, he said that his daughter Sheila Castaneda Gonzales, a number one councilor in the 2007 poll, would be his vice mayoralty running mate in his last term try.

While her daughter will be pitted with an outgoing councilor, he would square-off with outgoing councilor Joe Ferrer.

In case he wins, he said he will continue to implement other projects that benefit the general welfare.

“Marami na tayong na implement na projects but then marami na rin tayong inihahanda ng mga katulad ng ginagawa natin,” he stressed.

In his last three years as mayor, Castaneda implemented projects like the distribution of 33 patrol cars to the 32 villages and the town police and the construction of the Double AA abattoir.

He brought a lot for the expansion of the public cemetery, additional fire trucks, refrigerated van, loaders, and dump truck, and the construction of the second floor of the Agri-Aqua public market with an escalator.

“We constructed the second floor to get rid of the vendors selling their wares outside the market, “he said.
