Journalists light a candle for massacred colleagues

DAGUPAN CITY – Pangasinan media groups joined the observance of the International Day of Mourning on December 9 for the mass murder of 57 victims including 31 journalists, in Maguidanao.

At seven o’clock in the morning, all radio stations were turned off off for one minute, the second time they observed the moment of silence in protest of the massacre. The first time was last November 28.

At 5:30 in the afternoon, there was a candle lighting ceremony and a tribute to the slain journalists by the local reporters who wore black and white t shirts printed with “Stop Killing Journalists.”

The prayer-rally, held in front of the city museum, was participated in by the Pangasinan Tri Media Association, Pangasinan Press Club and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters sa Pilipinas Pangasinan Chapter.

Statements condemning the massacre and demanding for justice for the victims, were read by Cardinoza, PPC President Allan Sison and KBP Pangasinan Chapter President Bernie Erasquin.

Sunday Punch columnist Gonzalo Duque and award-winning tv journalist Maki Pulido also gave their messages.

On November 25, reporters also held a rally condeming the massacre.
