PhotobucketDAGUPAN CITY – Gina de Venecia, wife of former Speaker Jose de Venecia, filed her certificate of candidacy for fourth district of Pangasinan at the Commission on Elections provincial office.

Ms. De Venecia was also appointed district chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, the couple’s new party.

The former speaker’s wife was accompanied by 140 barangay captains of the district, her son Christopher, her mother Nene Vera Perez, and sisters Lilibeth Napkil, Marichu Maceda and Chona Ampil.

The former speaker however, was not able to accompany her as he was reportedly resting at their residence in Bonuan Binloc. He reportedly had a bout with pneumonia.

Ms. De Venecia thanked the two people whom she said influenced her the most – her mother “who taught me how to walk with kings and paupers,” and her husband who is “my mentor in politics.”

She said she and the former speaker, one of the founders of Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats Party, decided to join the NPC because in her husband’s fight for speakership, NPC was always his ally.

Besides, former Ambassador Cojuango, his wife Gretchen are close friends and, their son (fifth district Rep.) Mark and his wife (Sison Mayor) Kimi are like siblings to me.”
She refused to give a categorical answer who she will support for president as the NPC has no presidential candidate.

So, I just submit myself to the will of the people. After all, the will of the people is the will of God.

She was also evasive about who she will support for governor. Second district Rep.Victor Agbayani, who is running for governor, is a close family friend and ally and was the only Pangasinan representative who voted no for the impeachment of de Venecia.

Incumbent Gov. Amado Espino Jr. is reportedly being supported by NPC.

“It doesn’t matter what is in my heart. Just as in selecting the president, there is a process in selecting the governor. Let us respect the decision of the people,” she said.
De Venecia said she was happy that she was appointed district chair of the NPC and that she will not dictate who the people will vote for.

“I’m a mother and I come “to serve” not “to dictate.”. Let us give to the people the power to elect who they want to be their leaders,” she said.
