STA. BARBARA – The head of the 2nd Sub-Engineering chief of the Department of Public Works & Highways lauded her staffers for their extraordinary effort in helping the victims of the killer flood despite the fact that they needed help themselves.

Engr. Marietta Mendoza said members of her Disaster Response Team conducted rescue operations round-the-clock for several days when some villages in the 3rd congressional district were submerged.

“Sabi ko, kahit hindi sila nagpapalit ng damit puwede namang baliktarin ng tatlong beses, pero natutuwa ako kahit na nga lubog ang mga bahay nila nandito pa rin sila para tumulong,” she said.

Mendoza advised them to bring their children to safer places before they assist others.

She said her office distributed more than 2,000 relief packs that she herself solicited from the central office of the DPWH.

She stressed that a lot of victims from different villages became beneficiaries of her request. Each pack contained clothes, pair of shoes, canned goods, and rice.

Mendoza said one village in Bayambang were given more because it the most devastated because of a breached dike.

Mendoza said the mission in Barangay Bacnono was a special request from Rep. Rachel Arenas who was saddened upon seeing what happened there.

She added that she brought there ten medical doctors who distributed medicines and treated more than 300 patients.

She said despite the pressing restoration works on the infrastructure damaged by Peping, she still helps in the social needs in her district.
