SAN QUINTIN – Two outstanding mayors of Pangasinan urged women of this town to have strong and vibrant women’s organizations for cosio-economic and political empowerment.

San Quintin Mayor Clark Tiu and and Mapandan Mayor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr., speaking before a meeting of the women of this town, encouraged them to strengthen their organizations so that they will be empowered and their issues will be heard.

“The need for women to be organized is primary,” Calimlim said. “As an organization they will have a louder and more forceful voice in good governance.”

Mayor Tiu on the other hand said that the women of San Quintin should not only content themselves with household chores and the latest chismis but should now give their views on local and national issues.

Punong Barangay Darwina Sampang said that when there are no strong women’s organizations, women tend to vote on personalities and personal loyalties.

“It is in strong women’s organizations where issues and platforms can be discussed and upon which voting decisions are reached,” Sampang said.

Calimlim said that women’s concerns have not been hears like for example… the poverty of single mothers, the need for child care, the need for additional income, the need to improve oneself.
