OPLAN KANDADO. BIR Deputy Commissioner Nelson M. Aspe (right) pastes Tuesday the Notice of Closure on the shutter/roll-up of Jan Mark Drugstore in Lingayen for violation of the Tax Code of 1997. The Lingayen store is one of the eight Jan Mark branches closed by BIR teams which simultaneously implemented the Oplan Kandado in Mangaldan, Urdaneta City, Alaminos City and Tayug. Aspe earlier presided over a press conference at Hotel Consuelo in Lingayen before the teams proceeded to their targets. With him is BIR Regional Director Tomas Rosales (left). Rosales says there are around 80 establishments in Region 1 being targeted by Oplan Kandado. (Photo by Rolan Naoe / PIA-Pangasinan)

Resuello case ‘too hot to handle’

By Yolanda Z. Sotelo

SAN CARLOS CITY – The cases filed against the suspected killers of late Mayor Julian Resuello are proving to be “too hot to handle” for government prosecutors.

The more than two-year old cases have not taken off the ground, or still in the level of prosecutor which decides whether or not there was probable cause for the case to be heard by a judge.

The cases are now being handled by the fourth prosecutor after the first three either asked to be inhibited or were asked by the contending parties to be inhibited.

Ferdie vs Ranjit in 2010 vice guv race

vir2Last September 12, I had the chance to talk with Mapandan Mayor Ferdie Calimlim at Golden Flame Restaurant in Rosales while attending the birthday celebration of 6th District Rep. Conrad M. Estrella III.

In that brief encounter, I asked him about his reaction to Ranjit Shahani’s statement in a press conference that he is “ may gatas pa sa labi,” a Filipino idiomatic phrase referring to a person to be young and inexperienced. Mayor Calimlim smiled, shrugged his shoulders and jokingly touched his lips saying “wala namang gatas sa labi ko.” He laughed and smiled at me.

Calimlim is one of the vice gubernatorial contenders in Pangasinan come 2010 elections. He’s already making rounds of towns and barangays in the province. In these visits, he has articulated his plans and programs if ever he wins the vice gubernatorial derby.
