No dam break

FLOOD MITIGATION AND CONTROL. Engr. Tommy Valdez (3rd from left), vice – president of the San Roque Power Corporation, claims during the KBP Forum Thursday at the Philippine Information Agency office that the San Roque dam has been effective in mitigating floods in Pangasinan for the last five years. He notes that it is only in 2004 when the dam reached critical level and so it needed to release waters. “Water is gold to us,” he says, referring to the value of stored water to be used for power generation and irrigation. With Valdez are (from left) Engr. Arturo Ladislao of PAGASA, Raymund Mariano, also of San Roque Power Corporation, and mediamen Bernie Errasquin of DZMQ-Radyo ng Bayan, Danny Sagun of PIA – Pangasinan. Dam break very remote, says San Roque official

By Danny O. Sagun

DAGUPAN CITY -– The feared dam break that would deluge Pangasinan is very remote, an official of the San Roque Power Corporation said last week in a media forum.

SRPC Vice-President Tommy Valdez said the worst-case scenario may happen if things occur at the same time – a 9.5 magnitude earthquake, the San Roque Multi-Purpose dam is full to the brim, and the dam’s foundation is damaged because of terrorists’ attacks.

“Di mangyayari yan o kaya very remote kung sakali man,” he replied during the weekly KBP Forum when told of the fear being felt by Pangasinenses about a possible breakage of the dam.
