ALCALA -– San Vicente village of this town bagged the top prize of the Maisan sa Barangay contest of the Abono Party List, winning P2.2 million worth of projects for the barangay.

Village head Merly Cuaresma, who received the prize during the awarding ceremonies in Lingayen on August 29, said she requested that the prize will be used for the construction of a barangay health center and to concrete a farm-to-market road.

San Vicente, an agricultural village with 1,800 residents, bested 784 barangays all over the province to win the provincial level prize of the Maisan sa Barangay contest.

It won P200,000 in the town level, P1 million in the district level and another P1 million in the provincial level.

Cuaresma said all barangay officials and residents cooperated so that the village will win.
“We are very happy that everyone was cooperative and helpful,” she said.

A total of 50 villages made it to the town level, one from each town but two tied in Dagupan City. Each received P200,000.

The contest was based on quantity of harvest, innovations introduced and community involvement. The villages planted white corn on 250-meter wide lot.

The awarding ceremonies held at the Narciso Ramos Sports Center was attended by Senator Francis Escudero, Governor Amado Espino Jr., 6th District Rep. Conrado Estrella III, Abono Rep.
