Chiz to gov’t: Do not compromise OFWs’ welfare

Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero yesterday said government should address reports of distressed or detained OFWs, especially in countries with which it has no bilateral labor agreements (BLAs).

A 2006 study by the Philippine Migration Research Network noted that the Philippines has BLAs with only 13 countries, which was a fraction of the 193 countries where there are OFWs.

Based on a 2004 report by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), more than 4,000 Filipinos were detained in foreign jails, including Denmark, Colombia and Egypt, three countries where the Philippines has no BLA.

Curfew ng motor?


susan2Isang proposed provincial ordinance ang ini-akda ni BM Alfonso Bince na layong magtakda ng curfew hours sa Pangasinan para sa mga motorcycle na may dalawang sakay. Ito ang kaniyang aksyon at inaakala niyang solusyon sa nakaka-alarmang pagtaas ng mga insidente ng krimen na karamihan ay kinasasangkutan ng mga motorcycle tandem riders.

Marami ang tumututol. May mga violent reactions. Kabilang ang Motorcycle Philippines Federation sa mga nagbigay ng negatibong komento.Sinabi ng kanilang Director na si Atoy Santa Cruz na isang uri ng pagpatay sa lokal na turismo ang hakbang na ito. Magra-rally umano sila sa harapan ng kapitolyo sa nakatakdang araw ng public hearing upang ipahayag ang kanilang pagtutol.sa naturang proposal.

Relief operation held in Botolan

BOTOLAN — The Rotary International D3790 composed of Rotary Club of Dagupan East, Rotary Club of Dolores, Rotary Club of Laoag; the Innerwheel Clubs of the Philippines D379; and the Abono Party List conducted a relief operation in the town of Botolan, Zambales last August 15.

The effects of the Typhoon Kiko to the Central Luzon especially to the town of Botolan , Zambales resulted in livelihood destroyed, families displaced, death, hunger and diseases.

“Lubog ngayon sa baha ang bayan ng Botolan nang mawasak ang dike sa Bukaw River,” Abono Secretary General Michael Morden said. “Libo-libong residente ang inilikas matapos wasakin ng malakas na agos ng tubig ang kanilang mga bahay.”
