Milled corn

Bolinao fisherfolk ask government for buoys
BOLINAO — Fishermen operating marine sanctuaries in this town asked fishery authorities to help them secure the sanctuaries by providing them with buoys, floating devices to mark the area.
Jessem Gabatin , president of the Balingasay municipal marine sanctuary, said all sanctuaries in the town lost their buoys during the onslaught of typhoon Emong last May.
“None of us were able to replace the markers because we do not have the capacity to purchase as of now,” Gabatin said.

Dagupan wins best CDCC national award

DAGUPAN CITY – This city frequented by calamities has come up with disaster preparedness program that won this year’s Best City Disaster Coordinating Council (independent category) award given by the National Disaster Coordinating Council.
Glenn Rabonza, Office of Civil Defense administrator and NDCC executive officer, informed Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the awarding titled “Gawad Kalasag” will be held on July 13 at Malacañang Palace .
Dagupan was almost lost from the map because of the devastating earthquake in 1990. After the earthquake, the city which is the catchbasin of floodwaters from Zambales Mountain Ranges and the Cordillera Mountains, because even more vulnerable to flooding.

Family of slain soldier awaits body
SAN QUNTIN – The last time the family of Ist Lieutenant Dhell Jhun Evangelista of the Philippine Army saw him was last May when he came for a two-week vacation at the family residence in Alac, San Quintin.
“He came home for a two-week vacation for the reunion and town fiesta, after which he was assigned to Mindanao,” his eldest brother Denver told the Inquirer through his mobile phone.
Now, the family is waiting for the fallen soldier’s body for burial in his hometown.
Evangelista was assigned in Fort Magsaysay and was a member of the elite group Special Operations Command prior to his assignment in Mindanao.
