Reresentatives from PLC Holdings International (PVT) Ltd were accompanied by Velasco, vsitedo the proposed site for the airport after a breakfast meeting with Gov. Amado Espino.

The PLC Holdings International members who visited the province were Ralph Doughty, managing director for Asia based in Sri Lanka , Anthony “Tony” Reyes, managing director for Manila based in Makati City and Hercules Lee Castillo, managing director for Cebu based in Dallas, Texas .

“Sta. Barbara is a perfect site for the regional airport,” remarked Reyes. His main concern on how the airport will be supported in all aspects had been addressed with his discussion with Mayor Velasco.

“There is much to do with business and tourism in Pangasinan to support the airport,” Reyes added.

Previously, there were series of discussions particularly on the location of airport, and Velasco has persisted in supporting the meetings. He insisted that Sta. Barbara’s location in central Pangasinan is more accessible to the pilgrim town of Manaoag Dagupan City’s famous Bonuan bangus, among others.

Meantime, upon directive of Espino, the Tourism Operations Division of the Office of the Governor headed by Chief Tourism Operations Officer Maria Luisa Amor-Elduayan convened representatives from different cities and municipalities covering the six districts of Pangasinan to take a close look into this industry. The meeting took place on August 11 at the Malong Building in this town.

During the meeting, Elduayan discussed the present situation of tourism in Pangasinan, development issues and challenges, provincial policy directions on tourism development, strategies and on-going programs and projects.

The sharing of Miguel Sison, tourism officer of Alaminos City , with regard to his exciting and meaningful experiences in the tourism industry, encouraged the participants to boost and develop the tourism potentials in their respective cities/municipalities and participate in tourism-related activities.

Velasco, a former police officer, said that it was time for Pangasinan to develop not just the business industry but more so the tourism potentials in the province in order to support the proposed regional airport in Leet, Sta. Barbara. “This should be a concerted effort,” added Mayor Velasco.

A task force or working group had been set up to come up with initial plans and act as coordinating body to the different cities and municipalities in Pangasinan in the meantime that the association of tourism officers in the province has not yet been organized.
