Vintage bomb found in drainage canal

PhotobucketSTA. BARBARA — A construction worker got surprise of his life when he accidentally unearthed a vintage bomb while digging a drainage canal in Barangay Maningding here.

Leo Servillano was busy digging at 12:45 pm yesterday when he noticed metal protruding from the excavation. He thought it was just a metal scrap. But to his surprise, what he found was a bomb.

The local police was immediately informed about the bomb. SPO4 Eduardo Soriano and PO3 Roger Darapiza immediately rushed to the scene and secured the area.

Marshall Islands need doctors

DAGUPAN CITY -– The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Marshall Islands has announced job vacancies for physicians and gynecologists and offers a handsome renumeration.

Senior Labor and Employment Officer Romeo Jaramilla of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration said the Ebeye government hospital is in need of one staff physician/radiologist who graduated from a recognized medical institution with at least four years of experience, and one staff physician ophthalmologist who has a cataract surgery experience. The salary ranges from $31,000 –$ 35,000.

The Ebeye hospital also needs two physician obstetric-gynecologists who graduated from a recognized medical institution with at least two years experience as OB-GYN, and will receive the same salary as above.

Chiz: Gov’t response to calamity victims ‘lamentable’

Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero yesterday lamented the government’s slow and apparently inadequate response in addressing the needs of hundreds of displaced families in several provinces affected by a spate of typhoons, floods and other calamities.

“From Mindoro to Mindanao to Mayon, we have seen thousands either displaced or distressed. But this administration seems more concerned about its well-being rather than providing assistance to those affected by natural disasters,” he stressed.

Escudero reiterated a previous call for the creation of permanent evacuation centers in provinces regularly affected by typhoons.
