ferdieBy Virgilio Sar. Maganes

POZORRUBIO — Another supplemental feeding program among malnourished preschoolers was launched here by the Abono Party-list, Office of Senator Chiz Escudero and the local government officials led by Mayor Emma Zosima Chan last July 28 at the town’s social hall.

In welcoming the parents, toddler-beneficiaries and guests, Mayor Chan expressed her thanks to the Abono Party-list through its Chair Rosendo O. So for sponsoring this kind of activity.

“This is truly reflective of the party-list’s desire to help curb malnutrition and undernourishment among children not only in Pozzorubio but entire the province,” Mayor Chan told the audience.

The supplemental feeding program have been launched earlier in Dagupan City, Bolinao, Sison and some municipalities of La Union using white corn.

Rising above political differences

vir2Denial, anger, bargaining and frustration are what describe our political system in the country today. These are slowly eroding our political and social systems and swiftly dividing us as a people.

Last July 27 when La Presidenta Gloria was delivering her last State of the Nation Address (SONA), I saw four faces of society in our midst. In the Halls of Congress, there was a group of people who believes on the President’s statements, in the streets there was a group of militant organizations- that as we all aware of have no satiable comments whoever the administration will that be, a group of kibitzers that have no awareness or consciousness around them and a group of politicians that for the sake of being called oppositions are keeping themselves in arms with the militants.

These four faces of people to my dismay have not or are not contributing to our national development and consciousness as one people- they are, least to say, the fungi or rusts who are destroying the supposed societal order we deserved to have.

Urdaneta mayor finally acts on city’s garbage problem

By Virgilio Sar. Maganes

URDANETA CITY — The mounting garbage problem in this city needs to be addressed immediately as it is already posing a health hazard to the city residents, Mayor Amadeo Perez, Jr. said after he was informed that his proposed sanitary land fill has been opposed by Vice Mayor Julio Parayno in the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s session last July 27, 2009.

“We have to comply with Republic Act 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act before we will be castigated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as its compliance is already overdue, “ Mayor Perez said.

The city has an existing 6-hectare controlled dumpsite area in Catablan village here but not enough to contain the mounting garbage of the city. Materials recovery facilities (MRF) have been installed in the area for waste segregation.
