ROSALES- What’s the military personnel doing during meat inspection activities of the Bureau of Animal Industry?

The Association of Feeds and Veterinary Products Distributors, Dealers and Outlets in Pangasinan (AFVPDDOP) complained to the Abono Party List about the presence of military personnel in the inspections being conducted by an inspection team from the BAI.

The feed dealers said they felt threatened by the presence of the the military escorts in an activity of the BAI that is supposed to conduct a simple inspection of feeds being sold in the market.

Abono Chair Rosendo So said that one outlet owner remarked that Pangasinan is not NPA infested nor Abu Sayyaf infested and that there was no need for the military to escort inspectors of the BAI.

The feeds dealers have always been cooperative during past inspections conducted by the BAI and no untoward incidents were recorded.

The feed dealers do not believe that there were instructions from Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap for BAI personnel to conduct inspections of stores with military escorts.

Said So.

The Abono Party-list said that it is calling on the Department of Agriculture and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to explain the presence of military escorts in a routine inspection of feeds being sold in the stores of peace loving and law abiding businessmen.
