DAGUPAN CITY — “Unless the government will stop totally the importation of rice, vegetables, pork and other agricultural products, our farmers will be facing more problems in the future.”

This was bared by Abono Party-list chair Rosendo O. So before a group of meadiamen during the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club’s “ Kapihan sa Lenox” here on May 20.

He said that on rice alone, the National Food Authority (NFA) has already imported 1.5 million metric tons this year and 700,000 metric tons will still have to be imported before the year ends.

Living dangerously

vir2There’s no doubt that we are now in an era of living dangerously. The world is no longer safe for us humans to live in. Aside from natural calamities like typhoons, flash floods and earthquakes, various forms of diseases and sicknesses are emerging that have not been experienced by mankind since time immemorial. We have also man-made disasters caused by human follies like bombings and kidnappings.

Older people I talked with said that during their times, life was different. They were living freely and enjoying the bounties of nature. Weather situation was not reversed that’s why they could program the crops they wanted to plant in their farms. And yes, their plants were devoid of chemicals – they ate organic food, making them healthy and strong. The worst plague in the country was in 1900 when cholera epidemic took many lives.
