Ranjit says he will run for vice governor

After eight years of absence from politics, the nephew of former president Fidel V. Ramos, appeared in a press conference Wednesday morning to announce that he would run for vice governor in Pangasinan—a post which he once held—in the 2010 elections.

“The die is cast,” Shahani, also a former congressman, told reporters here.

Shahani is the son of former senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani, Ramos’ sister.

He will be the third political leader in Pangasinan to have announced his vice gubernatorial bid.

Perpetual Help University owes Villasis .5 M taxes

VILLASIS- The Perpetual Help University which is operating in various campuses in northern Luzon and Metro Manila, owes the municipal government here half million pesos in back taxes.

This was disclosed by Mayor Nonato S. Abrenica when asked about the ongoing construction of an airstrip in a 60-hectare land in Unzad village for the university’s aeronautical school.

“The university’s administration requested for a tax discount this year but until now has not paid taxes,” Abrenica said.

Sta. Barbara to offer housing under usufruct scheme

STA BARBARA – Can other mayors emulate what this town’s mayor has been doing to uplift the social welfare of his constituents?

Not satisfied with the construction of cheaper but quality school room that at present numbers 180, and 60 low-cost houses worth P 75, 000 for the poor residents, Mayor Reynaldo Velasco is introducing a social formula called “usufruct” for a housing project.

He said this will benefit the rank-and-file employees of the municipal government who do not own a house yet.
