STA. BARBARA — A model police station, the first state-of-the-art police emergency and assistance center in the Region 1, will soon rise inside the Provincial Nursery in Barangay Tebag East here.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on March 10 by Pangasinan Governor, Amado Espino Jr. and PNP Chief, Director General Jesus Verzosa and town police chief, Superintendent Eric Noble.

After the signing of the MOA, Espino and Versoza led the groundbreaking rites for the project.

The agreed plan is to establish a model police station following the vision and design under the PNP Integrated Transformation Program (ITP).

The ITP Model Police Station (MPS) project supports expanded access to justice by upgrading law enforcement capabilities, boosting the morale and welfare of personnel, and improving the quality of services rendered at the police station level.

Through this project, the PNP intends to enhance the collaboration among local communities, national government agencies and NGOs in improving local peace and order plans and implementing public safety projects.

The PNP national headquarters will provide a P2 million fund for the building of this police community precinct (PCP) while the local government of Sta. Barbara will give a counterpart fund.

Aside from serving as a PCP, the center will also serve as a tourist information kiosk. There will a desk for tourist information and clean restrooms for the public.

The Pangasinan Provincial Board gave authority on February 16 to Espino to enter into an agreement with the PNP for a donation of a 2,000 square meter lot in said barangay for the building of a model police precinct.

Mayor Reynaldo Velasco, a retired PNP general, explained that aside from the Police Community Precinct (PCP), an adjacent structure will be constructed to house a fire truck and an ambulance. From an original request of a 1,000 square meter space, the provincial board granted a total of 2,000 square meters to the project.

Espino disclosed that the Provincial Nursery will not only transfer agricultural technology to our farmers but will also serve as a tourist attraction in this town as he bared the plan of constructing a swimming pool to complement the lush and green surroundings of the area.

Verzosa thanked the governor for allocating a portion of the government property for its Emergency and Assistance Center. He said that this is part of improving the services the government is giving to the people, not only public services but also police services.

The municipal government of Sta. Barbara plans to put up a world class, clean and comfortable restroom in the area to serve the travelers, especially tourists, who are visiting the province. The site will also serve as a rest area and an information center which will promote the province as a tourist destination.
