Pangasinan is now the number one tourist destination in Region 1 based on the survey conducted by the Department of Tourism.

The province under the leadership of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. posted a record of 41.47% tourist arrivals as compared to Ilocos Norte, the former top grosser in tourism with 35.64%. Two years ago, Pangasinan ranked last in tourist arrivals in the region.

The provincial government is bent on strengthening existing development programs and has been pushing hard for the promotion of tourism in the province as part of the overall development plan of the present administration.

Cited as among the province’s improved tourism program were the grand transformation of the Capitol building into becoming the best Capitol in the entire country and a premier tourist come-on of the province serving as the official house of all elected provincial officials.

Also undertaken were the refurbishing of the Capitol building, repair of the Kalantiao, Malong and Finance building and its component areas such as the Veterans Park and Lingayen beach front. Capitol Resort Hotel has also been refurbished to serve as a venue for the various functions of the provincial government and the public.

Further, the purchase of six eco-tourism and employee’s shuttle buses has been a big boost to the enhancement of the tourism thrusts of the present administration.

Likewise, the Tour Assistance Program which provides tour and escorting services has been strengthened through the conduct of the first-ever Tour Guiding Seminar producing seven DOT-certified/accredited tour guides as compared in previous years when we only have one. Today, we also have 18 active tour guides who are all employees of the provincial government.

About 7,000 visitors and more than 16,000 mainly students from the private, public, state colleges and universities have already availed of the tour guiding services from the Capitol to the different towns of the province and even other places making every trip memorable and educational as bus reservation requests continue to flock in the office of the governor.
