He is a true-blooded-Maguindanaon who used to be a security guard. He persevered through sheer blood, sweat, and wit to climb and reach the senior level post of the Government Service Insurance Service (GSIS).

He is Mr. Deity Manampan, the top honcho of the GSIS Region 1.

“I was hired as security guard in 1991 at GSIS in Cotabato City. I was assigned to a clerical position (at GSIS) in 1991. In 2001, I was transferred to General Santos City as supervisor,” he narrated.

In 2006, Manampan took an examination for all clerical employees called NDP (National Development Program). When he passed, he was assigned as Assistant Manager in Baguio City, then as Assistant Manager in General Santos in November 2007, but in July 2008 he was transferred in Dagupan City as regional manager.

His office covers Dagupan City, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Baguio City, an jurisdictional area bigger than that of Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City.

His present thrust as general manager is to perfect the computerization system to wire his office to his satellite offices in the region and the main office in Manila.

He explained that computerization in Dagupan City is already complete while he waits for the completion of the electronic posting that will connect his office with the computers of GSIS in the region.

“I hope within the year we will be able to renew our ISO,” he added.

GSIS Region 1 has 71,000 retired government employees who are served by 80 employees thinly spread around its various offices in the region.

Of being reassigned to other regional office, the regional manager retorts it was beyond his control since it is under the call of President Gloria M. Arroyo.

He was quick to add likewise that his present post was not through the intercession of the president.

“It’s all about merits. I worked hard for it, “he said.
