Chiz bucks calls to probe World Bank

chizSENATOR CHIZ ESCUDERO on Wednesday rejected calls by some administration allies for an investigation into the manner by which the World Bank conducted its probe on the alleged bid-rigging activities of some contractors involved in foreign-funded road projects.

“It is the World Bank who exposed the supposed anomaly. We should focus our attention more on the message rather than the one who delivered it. Investigating the messenger would be inimically inappropriate,” Escudero said.

The opposition senator had met with World Bank procurement officials last week in Washington to request for an official copy of the report on the alleged collusion of Filipino and Chinese construction firms in a road project in the country.

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

LINGAYEN – As what he had done before the start of the 2007 national and local polls, Mayor Jonas Castaneda of this town declined once again the clamor for him to run for the congressional post in the province’s second district in 2010.

He was lukewarm even after he was informed that some political observers in the province considered him as a serious contender against incumbent Rep. Victor Agbayani.

His name is also being pitted against police general Poll Bataoil, retired Col. Pat Urduna and graduating Board Member Niki Boy Reyes.
