CALASIAO- The year 2012 is a banner year for this first class town in terms of construction activities.
Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalaysaid 2012 s a bigger year for his administration as it will see the construction of the two-story public market, Phase -2 of improvement of the plaza, the landscaping of the Central Public School, and the start of the Villamil Bridge.
He said the construction of the market is through buildoperate andtransfer scheme. He said however that it is not yet clear how much the marker will cost and the number of years the private owner will run it.
He refused to mention the name of the company that will build the market, explaining that the municipal council is still discussing the details of the memorandum of agreement.
He said it is a modern public market that would replace the present edifice that had been condemned by the municipal engineer as hazardous since the 1990 killer quake.
He added that the Villamil Bridge has likewise been condemned.
It will be replaced bya 100-meter bridge worth P89,221,394.64. It is a grant from the Spanish government. The bridge project is situated in Marusay River along Mancup-Poblacion road here.
He thanked Rep. Robert Raymond Estrella of the Abono Party List for funding the construction of an imposing waiting shed in the plaza.
He said some of the funds that were used for the construction of the Phase-1 came from the proceeds of the recent fiesta celebration and the Senor Tesoro Association.
He cited however the huge amount needed for the construction of the Phase 2 .
This town will host the giant retail store Robinson at Brgy. San Miguel that will open in March this year.
