ORTIGOZA: Archbishop Cruz on Corona

Is retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz shooting from the hips as he comes to the succor of beleaguered Chief Justice Renato Corona?
In an interview at the program of Bogs Torribio of Bombo Radyo- Dagupan, I asked Cruz that in case we stop now the impeachment which he branded as a charade against Corona, how would he solve the dilemma in case detained former president Gloria Arroyo asks the high court to grant her a bail by invoking the constitutional mandate that evidence against her is not strong?
“What if the Court grants her, and she runs to a foreign country that has no extradition treaty with the Philippines?” I posed.
Susmariosep, the good archbishop, who is my neighbor in this paper, said he could not answer my question.
Tsk, tsk, Cruz should better restrain himself if doesn’t know the nitty- gritty of the impeachment trial and its political and moral consequences.
As you know folks, an impeached Corona would straighten the other magistrates not to entertain evil thoughts otherwise they would be next on line for impeachment.

Boxing great, the legendary, Muhammad Ali will celebrate his birthday on February 18 at the MGM Grand Area in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Associated Press, his guests are high rollers of the boxing world like former heavyweight champions George Foreman, Ken Norton, and Leon Spinks. Former welterweight king Roberto Duran will be there, too.
The only kings who could not attend are the “Three Kings”.)
But there is a special guest that could either ruin or turn the party into success.
Philippines pride and world’s pound-for-pound boxing boss Manny Pacquiao would treat the Parkinson disease-suffering Ali and the guests to a love song.
Did I hear somebody yell: “Mag boxing ka na lang!( Just concentrate on boxing!)”

I chided two media men Harold Barcelona and Ed Gonzales who were waiting for their turn recently to interview Bayambang Mayor Ric Camacho.
When I was to run outside to take a look at a wild cat rally staged by residents of Camp GregG who protested a land grabbing inciden, the duo would not go with me.
“Walang pera doon, will just wait for the mayor to call us,” as they immersed themselves conversing in English with an English speaking lady staff of the mayor.
When I returned 30 minutes later they were still scandalously speaking the Shakespearean language.
“Anak ng baka, you should stop speaking that stuff. Remember we have to interview two more mayors and you should be ashamed of yourselves in case we run out of English when we start interviewing them,” I badmouthed them.
“Don’t worry, they could not speak that language either,” Harold retorted.

Economists said the Philippine economy will take-off this year compared to her 3.5 percent Gross Domestic Product in 2011.
The spoiler here however would be the debt crisis in Europe.
German chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy held a common ground despite differences to stave another blow to the European Union.
But with Merkel struggles to hold her coalition, and Sarkozy (just like U.S President Barrack Obama) seeing a defeat in this year’s election to presidential front runner and Socialist rival Francoise Hollande who denounced the Merkel-Sarkozy agreement, experts said these could undermine the fragile EU’s economy as it plummet to the doldrums by pulling the world’s economy.
As you know Pedro, 27 percent of the U.S export goes to the EU. EU’s has a huge export too in the U.S.
With recession gnawing the gains of the Union, it would undermine the U.S and Philippine economy as both countries have a stake on trade and tourism with the EUs.
